community educational institutions for program content, instructors, and evaluation <br />components. <br />MCA Program Manager, Deborah Briones, (.30) <br />Deborah oversees MCA curriculum development, the student selection process and builds <br />relationships with allied health education and employment partners. She also provides instruction <br />in Word Power and Math Mastery. Deborah received her BS in Nursing from California State <br />University -Los Angeles and her MA in Nursing from University of California, Los Angeles. <br />Case Manager, Susan Ortiz, (.30) <br />Susan is responsible for providing mentoring and case management support to students enrolled <br />in the Medical Careers Academy. She serves as a life skills instructor and assists with the <br />coordination of grants as they pertain to students enrolled in the Medical Careers Academy. <br />Susan receieved her BA in Sociology from Whittier College and is currently enrolled in the <br />Master of Social Work program at California State University, Long Beach. <br />Case Manager, Art Guerrero (.30) <br />Art received his B.A. in Psychology from Pepperdine University. Before coming to Taller San <br />Jose, Art worked for over twenty years as a federal probation officer. <br />MCA Program Instructor, Martha Guzman, (.25) <br />Martha provides instruction for both the clinical and administrative medical assisting programs. <br />She has 10 years of experience as a Medical Assistant and from 2004-2007 worked as a Medical <br />Assistant Instructor at Corinthian College. In 2007 Martha became a licensed phlebotomist and <br />worked as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I at Los Alamitos Medical Center. <br />C. Fiscal Capacity <br />Since opening in 1995, Taller San Jose has demonstrated clarity of vision and credibility in the <br />community for dealing with hard -to -reach young adults. The program has been funded by nearly <br />75 different foundations and over 1500 individual donors. Taller San Jose has the ability to <br />secure funding from a diverse mix of sources including individuals, corporations, family <br />foundations and government grants. The breakdown of revenue sources for Fiscal Year 2008- <br />2009 is as follows: Individuals- 11.5%; Corporate/Foundation Grants- 31%; Special Events - <br />15%; Program Service Fees — 37%; and, Government grants- 12%. <br />Taller San Jose's general contracting company, Hope Builders, Inc. also contributes to the <br />program's sustainability. In addition to achieving Hope Builders' ultimate goal of providing <br />graduates with the skills and stability required to find and maintain living -wage employment, the <br />project also generates a steady stream of self-sustaining revenue for Taller San Jose to <br />supplement its traditional fundraising program. <br />Accountability requirements and administrative measures have been developed to handle <br />reporting requirements and tracking systems for all income and expenses including grants <br />received by Taller San Jose for program purposes. Fiscal data is recorded in QuickBooks <br />Enterprise. There is an accounting manual available upon request which details the complete <br />system. There is an annual independent audit. In addition, an annual budget is used to plan <br />expenditures and costs, which is approved by the Board of Directors.
