Zuniga, Diana
From: CLAIRE FLORES <
Sent: Tuesday, June 17, 2025 4:08 PM
To: eComment
Subject: Public Comment for Mayor Valerie Amezcua
Attention: This email originated from outside of City of Santa Ana.Use caution when opening attachments or links.
*Start of public comment:
Good afternoon, my name is Claribel Flores,
I am a behavioral interventionist for a local school here in Santa Ana.
The city of Santa Ana was looking to you for leadership Mayor Amezcua. As ICE arrived in this city, your fellow elected
officials, your community organizers, your local business owners but most importantly, your constituents, all desperately
needed reassurance from you. They were nervous and they were scared. Instead, you decided to remain silent. They
asked for support and you continued to give them nothing. When the city took it upon itself to stand up for their
community, you not only condemned them for it, but went further and called out fellow local officials for and I quote
"condoning violence and destruction". These city officials did not condone the few bad seeds that became unruly, they
only praised and supported the peaceful protesters. These city officials were the only ones who immediately took action
and spoke to residents and listened to their concerns and fears;they were foot-to-street meeting with community
leaders, business owners and providing resources to the people that needed it the most. You promised to protect and
serve this city, the city that believed in you and elected you as their mayor. Instead you decided to stay silent and speak
against the city officials who did in fact show up for the community, essentially doing your job. Maybe if you had taken
action immediately, maybe if you had visited with residents and given them the reassurance they needed, things would
look different for you right now. Maybe if you had stood by your city, your city would be standing by you.
"When we stand in front of the entire world, unafraid to fight back for humanity, you clear an easier path for others to
do the same".
Thank you for your time.
*End of comment*
Claire Avina-Flores
Behavior Interventionist I OCDE
Digital Marketing &Sponsorships

1
