Zuniga, Diana
From: Eric Gregory <
Sent: Tuesday, June 17, 2025 5:28 PM
To: eComment
Subject: June 17 Council Meeting - Comments
Attention: This email originated from outside of City of Santa Ana.Use caution when opening attachments or links.
To the Mayor and Council,
Having read the Voice of OC article published today, written by Spencer Custodio, I find it disheartening that members of
the council are quoted making their issues more about defending ethnicity, or the Raza, instead of their focus of what
the role of city government is. Yes,the Federal law enforcement has come to town, and although unpopular in the
community, they are performing their lawful duties. Unpleasant as it is, It is not the role or function of the City or its
officials to stand in its way. Comment yes, but not impede their actions.
As council members are vocal about the Mayor's performance, the article makes clear that she is the mayor for an entire
city and not only for one segment. The article implies that because of her unpublished support of the Hispanic
community that somehow she's a traitor! It would seem that by the comments made by a majority of the council
members that this is their agenda,To look at me as a political move to secure my future. I am there with you therefore I
am supporting your cause. A cause to defy the rule of law. A cause that only one segment of the population matters.
And a cause that the tail can wag the dog.
Yes,there are concerns where law enforcement needs to appear less aggressive. Because things are not going our way,
the crowd chooses to push back. If there is any policy derived we do need to consider the rights of the citizens to
peaceably assemble and protest. We also must consider that my rights and those of others are not infringed upon, or
that my freedoms are interrupted. That when force is used that it rises to a level to meet the threat, control the
situation, and reduce when appropriate. Escalation and Deescalation are on a sliding scale.
If residents of the city feel that the police department has been too heavy handed in the past enforcing the State laws
and City ordinances, then maybe we should begin to feel less entitled, and remember that we are to be held
accountable for our actions. The standards and laws have to be applied equally to all of the residents. Even if they are
unpopular!
Eric Gregory
i
