Use caution when opening attachments or links.
Dear Councilmembers,

My name is Amalia Mejia, I am a resident of ward 4. I write this email to express my concerns with the use of
military equipment in our city. I understand that these reports do not reflect 2025 given that the year has not
completed, however you cannot ignore the increase in use of tear gas by SAPD. I strongly oppose the
reaffirmation of ordinance NS-3020 and the use of PepperBall, triple-chaser CS Canister, SPEDE-Heat CS
Canister or use of any type of tear gas. Research has found the negative physical and psychological impacts on
people from use of tear gas. That includes harm to women's reproductive health. Attached, please find two
studies that have tested the impacts of tear gas and contextualize them under crowd control situations.

Best,

--
Amalia Mejia, MPP
https://www.linkedin.com/in/amalia-mejia/
3
