Ad Hoc Committee Nominations for the 2024 City of Santa Ana Historic Preservation
Awards
November 7, 2024
Page 7
4
6
5
9
preservation and restoration of the Orange County Title Company building façade,
Planning staff is recommending a special recognition be given for this project. Staff notes
that this will be a separate recognition from the 2024 City of Santa Ana Historic
Preservation Awards recognition, in order to respect the award criteria and those
individuals that may have not submitted because they did not meet the eligibility
requirements.
Staff will retain the original nomination for The Rafferty and automatically include it as part
of next year’s nominations, for consideration. Through ongoing conversations with the Ad
Hoc committee there was a willingness to craft more flexible eligibility criteria of
preservation/restoration projects that are not necessarily in an historic boundary and/or
individually listed. In an effort to promote good preservation, Planning staff will be revising
the eligibility criteria to allow properties to be considered if they are “deemed eligible,”
historic resources, rather than just listed historic resources. Moreover, the City will explore
the merits of more flexible categories, which could afford an opportunity to acknowledge
persons or projects that do not technically fit into the existing categories/parameters.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
There is no environmental impact associated with this action.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is no fiscal impact associated with this action.
EXHIBIT
1.
