Originally developed in the late
nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, French Park is significant as one of Santa Ana’s
oldest residential neighborhoods and for its historic architectural character, which is
defined by rows of historic homes, several of which can be considered to be the finest
examples of a particular style in Orange County. Specifically, 826 North Lacy
Street was constructed in a restrained Folk Victorian style, while 830 North Lacy Street
was built as a Craftsman Bungalow. Habitat for Humanity led the project, which was
constructed with donated labor and materials. Once completed, the houses were intended
to be sold to families of moderate income. The success of the project may also be
measured by the fact that the two properties have been added as a stop on the French
Park neighborhood home tours.
Work was generally completed by late 2023.
Special Recognition
Lastly, the City received a nomination for The Rafferty project in downtown Santa Ana,
which was not initially considered eligible.
