Flores, Dora
From: George Mendoza <
Sent: Tuesday, September 16, 2025 1:01 PM
To: eComment
Subject: Park STRUCTURE!
Attention: This email originated from outside of City of Santa Ana. Use caution when opening attachments or links.
Hi, my name is George Mendoza owner of American Barbershop in downtown Santa Ana . I opened my barbershop in
2010 and I have been there a total of 15 years. I'm going to be quite frank, I am sick and tired of the parking structure
issues and the parking meter enforcement issues. It has been extremely abusive and excessive the entire time I have
been here in DTSA . I have lost hundreds of clients because of aggressive parking enforcement agents and even worse
because of getting their cars broken into in the parking structure. I don't understand why there is no surveillance
cameras in the parking structure just like so many parking structures and other malls or downtowns .
I am extremely upset to find out that you are hiking up the parking rates in the parking structure . Like how dare you
guys do this and I still have a chain -link fence sitting in front of my business blocking the view to my Barbershop. We
have sat patiently for years now, dealing with this horrible train construction while our businesses have been slowly
drowning. I am down 40 to 50% on sales since the train construction started. Most of the days when I stand out in
front of my barbershop I look down fourth Street as far as I could possibly look, and I don't see a single soul walking on
the sidewalk. Not joking and not exaggerating.
I have 12 barbers that work for me and they are struggling and they can easily go work at another barbershop. And
now you want to charge them $100 a month membership just to park ? Most of my guys have been with me for years
and they have contributed so much to this Downtown. And every single one of my barbers have had their car broken
into in that parking structure over the past years. I am demanding that you continue to give people at least 2-3 hours
free parking during the day ! And that is bare minimal . It's like you guys are doing everything you can to completely
bankrupt your downtown businesses. Last I checked people don't have to pay for parking at Irvine Spectrum or South
Coast Plaza, and they are at a much higher Caliber than our Downtown.
Like why would customers even want to come to Downtown? They're either gonna get a parking meter ticket or
they're going to park in the parking structure and get their car broken into . These are facts and you guys could come
into my barbershop and talk to every single one of my barbers that have had their cars vandalized or broken into. I was
literally sitting in my car once taking a phone call and a druggie crackhead opened my back door not realizing I was in my
car ! I demand that if you are giving out parking passes for people that work in downtown, they should be $40-$50
and you can even make us park on the roof for all we care . It is always completely empty up there on the top two levels.
I am seriously exhausted with this train construction, and everything this Downtown has put us through these last few
years . I have lost hundreds of clients to other barbershops just because of parking alone. As you can tell in the tone of
this email, I am extremely upset and exhausted. I was talking to one of the head contractors that is on the OCTA
project and he told me there's still no end in sight of a finished project and that we probably won't see a train running
down fourth Street till summer / winter of next year " if we are lucky "
Take down that chain -link fence in front of my shop , and show us a functioning and complete train , And most
importantly, get better surveillance, and better security for the parking structure ! Until then , how could you possibly
even think about charging more for the parking structure? Like serious question here. I seriously couldn't believe it
when I saw that notice. Like wtf ?
I apologize for the tone of this text, but we have all reached our boiling point !
George Mendoza
