hours. <br /> Section 5. Holiday benefits may not be carried over from one calendar <br /> year to the next. <br /> ARTICLE X- VACATION <br /> Section 1 . Purpose. It is the policy of the City to grant employees <br /> vacation leave in order to provide them with a break in their regular work <br /> schedule and this purpose will be used as a guide in the administration of the <br /> provisions of this Article. <br /> Section 2. IReeular Vgeation Period. <br /> A. Regular vacation with pay is granted to each full-time permanent <br /> or probationary employee at the rate of 15 working days for each completed <br /> year of service, accured at the rate of 10 working hours for each completed <br /> month of service. Employees hired after August 9, 1979 shall be granted <br /> regular vacation at the rate of 10 working days for each of his or her first <br /> and second completed year of service, accrued at the rate of 6 2/3 hours for <br /> each completed month of service. Thereafter, all such employees shall be <br /> granted regular vacation at the rate of 15 working days for each completed <br /> year of service, accrued at the rate of 10 working hours for each completed <br /> month of service. <br /> B. An employee who has completed less than one year's service <br /> during the calendar year shall receive a proportionate fraction in accordance <br /> with the amount of service to his credit during the year; provided, however, <br /> no employee shall be entitled to, or receive payment for, any vacation until <br /> he has completed six (6) months of continuous service. <br /> C. On or after the first (1st) day of the month following <br /> completion of six (6) months of continuous full-time service, an employee may <br /> be allowed to take all or a proportionate fraction of his or her earned <br /> vacation, subject to scheduling approval of the employee's supervisor. <br /> D. Absence on sick leave for a period in excess of fifteen (15) <br /> consecutive calendar days shall not be considered as service for vacation <br /> accrual purposes. <br /> E. Vacation time off may be taken in increments as small as one (1) <br /> hour, with fractional usage rounded upward to the next higher multiple of one <br /> (1 ). <br /> F. Computation _of Regular Vacation: <br /> (1 ) In computing regular vacation, each municipal holiday that <br /> occurs during the vacation, and that falls on a day which the employee would <br /> have worked had he/she not been on vacation, shall be deducted from the <br /> computation so that one (1 ) additional day of regular vacation shall be <br /> allowed to the employee unless departmental practice provides some other <br /> manner of compensating for municipal holidays. Should an employee be confined <br /> to a hospital for sickness or injury while on authorized vacation, each full <br /> day of such confinement, when confirmed by a physician's statement and <br /> approval of the Chief of Police, may be deducted from the computation of <br /> 17 <br />
