CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />APPENDIX I <br />PROJECT NO.: XX-XXXX <br />PROJECT TITLE <br />No backfill shall be placed until the sewer pipe laid has been approved by the City <br />Inspector. <br />Crushed rock products shall be in accordance with subsection 200-1.2 and Table 200- <br />1.2(A) of the Standard Specifications. <br />The seventh and eighth paragraphs of Subsection 306-1.3.1 of the Standard Specifications <br />are hereby deleted and replaced with the following: <br />Rocks greater than 4 inches in any dimension will not be permitted in backfill <br />placed between 1-foot above the top of any pipe and 1-foot below pavement <br />subgrade. <br />Backfill around sewer manhole and structures shall be sand placed a minimum of <br />2' laterally around structure and backfilled to subgrade. <br />The following test methods shall be used for determining relative compaction: <br />California Test 216 (Sand Cone Method) <br />California Test 231 (Nuclear Gauge Method) <br />The Contractor will be provided with compaction test at locations deemed necessary by the <br />Engineer. <br />If compaction fails to meet the Contract Specifications, then the Contractor shall make the <br />necessary adjustments and is responsible for the cost of additional compaction tests until <br />compaction per the specifications is met. <br />All trench and structure backfill sand, crushed rock and Class II aggregate base and native <br />material shall be compacted to 95% of maximum density at optimum moisture. <br />If any trench, through the neglect of the Contractor, is excavated below the grade required <br />by the plans and these Special Provisions, it shall be refilled to grade with additional <br />bedding. <br />6.02 IMPORT BACKFILL MATERIAL <br />Imported backfill shall conform to the applicable provisions of Section 306-1.3.7 of the <br />Standard Specifications and these Special Provisions <br />Imported backfill shall be clean soil, free from organic material, trash, debris, rubbish, <br />broken Portland cement concrete, bituminous materials, or other objectionable substances. <br />The Contractor shall dispose unsuitable material to an approved facility. <br />
