Four projects are nominated for the 2025
awards as examples of an exemplary restoration effort as well as general merit in the field
of historic preservation. The nominees include the Coselman House (424 S. Broadway),
and three properties located in the Heninger Park neighborhood, including 606 S. Van
Ness Avenue, 616-618 S. Van Ness, Avenue, and 821 S. Van Ness Avenue. On behalf
of the Ad Hoc Committee, Staff recommends the Commission approve the nominations.
DISCUSSION
Background
In August 2025, Planning Division staff announced that the City was accepting
nominations for the 2025 Historic Preservation Awards as part of the City’s annual Historic
Preservation Awards program. The deadline for nominations was Thursday, October 2,
2025. Staff received four nominations in total and determined all four nominations met the
eligibility requirements.
On October 20, 2025, Planning Division staff met with members of the Ad Hoc Committee
to discuss the four eligible nominations received for the 2025 City of Santa Ana Historic
Preservation Awards. The Ad Hoc Committee consisted of Historic Resource
Commissioners Ginelle Hardy and Dylan Almendral, as well as Bao Pham, who also
serves on the Planning Commission. Mr. Pham is a lisenced, local architect who operates
the design consultancy BPDO. However, his participation and deliberation were purely in
his capacity as a licensed professional architect not as a City commissioner.
