Montez Approved By: <br />Date of Report: 9/24/18 Date: 10/01/2018 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />CASE NAME: TAYLOR, DONADONY BLAKE <br />CLASSIFICATION: OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING (FATAL) <br />INTERVIEW OF: ERIC MASTEL, DEPUTY SHERIFFF <br />SAN BERNARDINO SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT <br /> <br />PRESENT: ANDY GARCIA, DETECTIVE <br />SANTA ANA POLICE DEPARTMENT <br /> <br />DATE AND TIME: 07/02/18 0434 HOURS <br />LOCATION: SANTA ANA POLICE DEPARTMENT <br /> <br />On Monday, July 2, 2018, at approximately 0434 hours, Santa Ana Police Department <br />(SAPD) Detective ANDY GARCIA and I conducted a digital audio recorded interview of San <br />Bernardino Sheriff’s Department (SBSD) Deputy ERIC MASTEL regarding the SAPD officer involved <br />shooting of DONADONY BLAKE TAYLOR. The following is a summary of the interview: At the <br />time of the incident, MASTEL was employed as a deputy sheriff with SBSD. MASTEL had been a <br />sworn peace officer for a year and a half. <br />On Sunday, July 1, 2018 at 1530 hours, MASTEL was on a ride-along with SAPD Police <br />Officer PATRICK MARSHALL. MASTEL was in regular casual attire and had a concealed handgun. <br />MASTEL stated that at approximately 2330 hours, he heard a call on the radio of a <br />suspicious male with a long metal object. When they entered the parking structure he heard an <br />officer advised on the police radio that he had one at gun point. When they arrived on the second <br />floor of the parking structure he observed DONANDONY BLAKE TAYLOR holding a 2 ½ foot long <br />metal bar like a person in a batter’s stand would.
