Officer Report for Incident 20-02516 <br />Narrative <br />On Ja nuary 20th, 2020 , I, Detective Benedict Roddy, was notified by pho ne by <br />Detecti ve Sergean t Spangler of thi s investigation. I was told Santa Ana Police <br />Department officers were i nvestigati ng a sexual assault crime (20-01709 ) and <br />were i n Foun tain Va lley attempting to int ervi ew the s u spect wh en an Officer <br />Involved Shooting occu rred. 'l'he s uspect was transported to UC I Medical Center <br />but was pronounced deceased at t he hospital . <br />When I arrived at t he Foun t ain Valley Police Department, I was tol d the <br />fol l owing by Officer Nance: <br />At 2256 hours, Santa Ana Police co ntacted Fountain Valley Pol ice Dispatch and <br />i nfor med them three marked Santa Ana police vehicl es and three uniformed poli ce <br />officers were a t tempti ng to contact a sexua l assault suspect, Miguel MERCADO a t <br />At 23 2 2 h ours , Fountain Valley Dispatch <br />was no tified by Santa Ana Police tha t officers were i nvolved in a Officer <br />I n volved Shooting and were reques t ing addi t ional pol ice personnel and emergency <br />services. <br />The following Fountai n Valley Police Officers responded to the scene: <br />sergeant B. Mosher 11273 <br />Corporal M. Avila ./1263 <br />K-9 Officer K. Erskine f/260 <br />Officer N. Nance ./1283 <br />Officer E. Olvera #313 <br />Officer T. Shook #320 <br />Officer M. Spencer il302 <br />FVPD Officers assisted in control ling the scene and administering aid until <br />Fountain Val l ey Fire lt VE32 and Care Ambulance #255 arrived on scene. <br />Serge a n t Mosher recovered MERCADO ' s firear~ Refer to his supplemental r eport <br />for further details. <br />Officer Spencer brought MERCADO'S par e nts , and , to the <br />Fountain Va l ley Police Depar tment. Refer to his supplemental report for further <br />details . <br />Officer Olvera i mmediatel y b egan an Incident Scene Lo g. Refer to his <br />suppl emen tal report and entries i n to the scene log for furthe r details. <br />Officer Shook followed the Care Ambul ance as i t trans ported MERCADO to UCI <br />Medical Center. Refer to his suppl emental report for further de tails . <br />Th e following Fountain Valley Detectives were called in to assist wi th this <br />investigati on: <br />Detecti ve Sergeant Spangler J 200 <br />De tective B.
