Officer Report for Incident 20 -02516 <br />Foun t ain Valley Po l ice, Santa Ana Po l i ce, a nd OCDA inves tiga tor s were <br />b ri efed on the i ncident at 0201 hours by Santa Ana Sergeant Achziger it2978 a nd <br />Fountain Valley Sergean t Mosher 11273 . The f oll owing i s a synopsis of the seri es <br />of e vents: <br />At 1 526 hours , SAPD received a complai nt of a sexual ass aul t which occurred i n <br />their j urisdiction. Thro ugh their investiga tio n, they obtai ned a suspect by the <br />name of Miguel MERCADO ( 11-09-88) who resides at - <br />in Fountai n Valley. At 2256 hours , San ta Ana Pol ice Sergeant D. Lima #2373 and <br />Santa Ana Police Officers G. Roe l f s #3 51 4 a nd J . Espadas #3507 arrived a t this <br />address t o interview and arrest MERCADO. At 2321 h ours , one of these offi c e rs <br />r a dio "998" (Office r i nvolved in shooting). At 2 3 2 3 ho urs, Officers radio the <br />s us pect' smother is n ear the suspect and in possession of h is firearm. At 2326 <br />ho urs, Officers radio a Taser was deployed on the mother to gain co nt ro l o f the <br />f irearm in her possess ion. At 2327 hou rs, Of fi cers radio "Code 4 ." <br />I was assign ed as Lead Investigator for this i ncident and worked wi t h OCDA <br />I nvesti gator Craig Brower. We int ervi ewed Sergeant Lima regarding the inciden t. <br />Re f er to Investigator Brower's report for details . <br />De t ective Vega was assigned t o the crime scene inves tigation team with OCDA <br />I nves tiga t or M. Kendrick. Re f e r to his r eport for details . The Orange Count y <br />Crime Lab responded to conduct CSI of the scene and MERCAD O. Refer t o their <br />report for details (#20 -409 2 6). <br />Detecti ve Marquez was assigned to OC.DA Investigator Mercado and interviewed the <br />parents,■ Refer to his report for detai ls. <br />De tecti ve Holmes was assigned to OCDA Inves t i gator Gonzalez. They r esponded to <br />UC! Medical Center where MERCADO was transported a nd pronounced deceased. She <br />obtained medical records (#9 1 07674 ) for MERCADO and was present when Corone r <br />Hartney a rri ved on scene to take custody of MERCADO. They r esponded to <br />the Santa Ana Police De p artment for the interview and inventory of Office rs <br />involved i n the shooting. Refer to h i s report for det ails . <br />On January 22nd, 2020 , I obtained the Fire De partme n t I nc i d e n t Repo.rt and ePC R <br />report from Juli eann Parente, F.V Fire Management Aide, and i ncluded them with <br />this report. <br />On January 23rd, 2020, I accompanied OCDA investi gator Drower to the Or ange <br />County Coroner's Office fo r the autopsy of MERCADO . Present in the viewing roo m <br />were OCDA I nvestigator Brower, myself and Detecti ve Ho lme s. Pre s ent for the <br />a utopsy we re Dr . Kim, Assistant J . Gonzalez , Specialist N. Le dda, and Fore nsic <br />Scientist C. Maggay with observer N. Moore. I s aw it was de t ermi ned there were <br />seven (7) gunshot entry woun ds t o MERCADO 's body.
