Narrative: Narrative
Narrative:
On 04/07/2023 at approximately 2251 hours, I responded to 422 S. Shelton Street for a crime scene investigation on
an assault with a deadly weapon incident. Upon arrival, we were advised by Corporal Valdez #3243 that this incident
occurred shortly after an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) (SAPD CI#2023-07962) and Sergeant Barragan #2937
requested the scene be processed by the SAPD Forensics Unit (not the Orange County Crime Lab who was
processing the OIS crime scene).
The location is a single story residence with a gated front and backyard on the southwest corner of W. Myrtle Street
and S. Shelton Street, facing east. Cpl. Valdez directed me to the grass parkway directly in front of the address. After
a search was conducted, I located several cartridge cases (Evidence markers #1-10) scattered throughout the grass
parkway. On the west sidewalk, a cartridge case (Evidence marker #11) was located on the pavement just north of
the driveway of 422 S. Shelton Street. Additionally, a cartridge case (Evidence marker #12) was located on the west
sidewalk directly in front of the driveway of 422 S. Shelton Street. I photographed the aforementioned areas and items
for documentation purposes.
Next, Cpl. Valdez directed me south bound through Shelton Street to , located on the east side
of the street facing west. The location is a single story residence with a gated front yard and driveway. Cpl. Valdez
directed me to the parkway area directly in front of the residence in between the east sidewalk and north bound lane
of Shelton Street. A tree located in the parkway in front of the residence, I located an apparent ricochet mark
(YLGHQFH PDUNHU $ RQ WKH ZHVW VLGH RI WKH WUXQN 7KH YLFWLP
V FORWKLQJ DQG FHOOSKRQH ZHUH VFDWWHUHG RQ WKH HDVW
sidewalk, parkway and gutter. After a further search of the area, a gray ³Apple´cellphone with a clear case (Evidence
marker #13) was located in the gutter adjacent to the north bound lane of Shelton Street. On the parkway, I located a
black ³SHAKA WEAR´t-shirt with red stains, a black ³PRO USA´zip-up hoodie with red stains, a dark blue
³SHAKA WEAR´t-shirt with red stains, and a white tank top with red stains (Items labeled as evidence marker #14).
Additionally, on the parkway, I located a set of three keys with a key fob on a ³Boston Red Sox´lanyard (Evidence
marker #15), a $100 dollar bill with red stains (Evidence marker #16), and a white sock and a white ³ADIDAS´shoe
both with red stains (Evidence marker #17). On the east sidewalk, I located dark blue ³Ben Davis´pants with red
stains, a black belt with red stains and black ³PRO CLUB´athletic shorts with red stains (Items labeled as evidence
marker #18). I photographed the aforementioned areas and items for documentation purposes.
Continuing my investigation, I located another apparent ricochet mark (Evidence marker #B) on the exterior of the
cast iron fence of the residence () adjacently north of the entry way into the front yard. South of
the entryway into the front yard, I located an apparent ricochet mark (Evidence marker #C) on the cinder block fence
of the residence. I photographed the aforementioned areas for documentation purposes.
Then, I entered the property of and into the south side yard. I located an apparent ricochet mark
(Evidence marker #D) on the south wooden fence near the southwest corner of the property. I continued east in the
south side yard and located a bullet fragment (Evidence marker #19) in the grass area of the yard. Continuing east in
the side yard and along the walkway, I located two pieces of a jacket fragment (Evidence marker #20) on the
pavement just west of the gate dividing the backyard and the side yard. A bullet hole was located on the south
wooden fence to an area east of evidence marker #D (Evidence marker #E). As I searched the opposite side of the
fence, an apparent ricochet mark was located on the north side of the tree trunk of . I
photographed the aforementioned areas and items for documentation purposes.
It should be noted that Cpl. Valdez indicated that the owner of the adjacent property did not give us permission to
access the property, therefore a search for the bullet was unable to be conducted.
I took overall measurements of the crime scene, see attachments for further details.
FSI McKeever #3787 assisted me with creating a sketch of the crime scene and scanning the crime scene with the
SAPD¶s department issued LEICA RTC 360 Scanner. Seven scans were captured on job #13. Refer to FSI
McKeever¶s report for further details.
Evidence marker¶s #1-20 were collected as evidence.
As I collected the dark blue ³Ben Davis´pants (Evidence marker #18), FSI McKeever observed a black ³Ferrato´
wallet, yellow ³CRKT´switch blade, and an ID card in his front left pocket. The items were also collected as evidence
under evidence marker #18.
Santa Ana PD 2023-07973 Report by Vazquez, Sonia 3817 3 of 4
