Describe current traffic unit complement (number of personnel and classifications). If applicable, <br />describe how the size of the traffic unit has fluctuated in the past five years and why. <br />There are twenty seven sworn officers assigned to the traffic division. In the course of the last five years, <br />the Santa Ana Police Department has increased staffing by four officers to our current level. We are <br />committed to sustaining our current staffing level. However, due to the state of the economy, staffing could <br />be reduced. <br />Of the twenty seven officers, eighteen are assigned field enforcement duties. The remaining officers and <br />supervisors have duties which preclude them from being in the field full time. <br />2. How many sobriety checkpoints did your department conduct between October 1, 2008 and <br />September 30, 2009? What is the average number of DUI arrests and vehicles impounded per checkpoint? <br />During the 2008/2009 federal fiscal year, we conducted twelve checkpoints.
