AVOID the 28 DUI Campaign in Orange County <br />5. What percent of your DUI arrests between October 1, 2008 and September 30, 2009 were made as a <br />result of a collision? <br />There were 333 DUI arrests that were made at the scene of a traffic collision. This is represents 29% <br />of the 1136 DUI arrests made during the fiscal year. <br />6. What percent of your collisions involve drivers with a suspended or revoked license? <br />Individuals with Suspended/Revoked driver's licenses were involved in 312 of the 4081 reported <br />traffic collisions. This represents 7.6% of our total collisions. <br />7. What is the magnitude of your city's problem concerning repeat DUI offenders who violate <br />probation or fail to appear in court? Do you currently have a program that proactively addresses <br />this issue? <br />We have no direct means to determine the number of DUI offenders who fail to appear in court. Our only <br />measure of this is the number of outstanding DUI warrants. We have averaged 150-200 DUI warrants yearly <br />which would represent 10% to 20% of our total DUI arrests. <br />We currently address this problem by conducting grant funded warrant sweeps and through cooperation <br />with the Orange County Probation office. <br />8. Do you have a backlog of unserved warrants for repeat DUI offenders? <br />Our warrant database shows there are 157 DUI warrants that have been issued in the last year. Outside of <br />our current grant programs, we have no resources dedicated to address this backlog of warrants. <br />9. How many of your traffic officers have received Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) <br />training? <br />Twelve traffic officers have attended formal SFST training. We are currently attempting to schedule training <br />for an additional fifteen officers. <br />What is your current administrative recovery fee for vehicles-impounded for up to 30 days and-how- <br />much of the fee goes to the General Fund vs. a special Traffic Offender Impound Account? How is it <br />used? <br />The Current release fee for impounds due to license violations is $190.00. Of this amount, $100.00 is <br />deposited in a traffic offender account. We have been used this fund to supplement traffic enforcement <br />activities. These activities have included DUI enforcement, DUI checkpoints, enforcement of speed, <br />seatbelt, redlight violators, traffic/DUI training, and the purchase of equipment used by traffic personnel. <br />PERFORMANCE MEASURES: <br />OTS-38b GME DUI Overtime <br />(11/09)
