Becerra, Alexis
From: Adrienne Lee <adriennel@tawa.com>
Sent: Tuesday, May 5, 2026 10:32 AM
To: !City Clerk; eComment
Subject: Santa Ana Self-Checkout Ordinance
Attention: This email originated from outside of City of Santa Ana.Use caution when opening attachments or links.
Dear Santa Ana City Councilmembers,
I am writing on behalf of 99 Ranch Market, a family-owned Asian-American grocery store founded in 1984. We have
proudly served Southern California communities for more than four decades.
We understand that the Council is considering an ordinance regulating self-checkout systems. We are concerned that
this decision may move forward without any outreach to or input from local grocers.
Grocery operations are complex, highly regulated, and operate on extremely thin margins. Decisions affecting store
operations require careful consideration and industry input. Many of our customers rely on self-checkout for speed,
accessibility, and convenience. Any regulation in this area could have significant operational and economic impacts.
We respectfully ask that the City pause any directive to develop an ordinance until it has met directly with local grocers
to understand the operational realities and potential unintended consequences.
We look forward to working in partnership with the City to ensure Santa Ana remains a strong, competitive environment
for local businesses while continuing to provide quality jobs and essential services to our community.
Sincerely,
Adrienne Lee
General Counsel
0
www.99ranch.com
0
adriennel@tawa.com
(714) 521-8899 Ext.1749
6338 Regio Ave. Buena Park, CA 90620
1fl 1fl Ifl El Ifl
Ifl,
CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE and DISCLAIMER:
This e-mail and any files or attachments transmitted with it contains information that is confidential and/or legally
privileged. This information is intended only for the use of the individual(s) and/or entity(ies)to whom they are
1
