S.A. #13-015
Supervising Investigator: Mark Gutierrez Date of Report: 06/28/2013

On June 20, 2013, at 1530 hours, JESSICA GONZALEZ confronted her ex-girlfriend and
shot her three times with a .38 caliber revolver. Orange Police Department investigated the
homicide and disseminated a “Wanted Flyer,” identifying GONZALEZ as being an armed and
dangerous suspect in the homicide.
On June 23, 2013, at 0807 hours, Santa Ana Police Officers GARY AYALA and SAUL
ESQUIVAL contacted GONZALEZ in the east alley of 805 South Townsend Street, in the city of
Santa Ana. AYALA and ESQUIVAL then broadcasted they had been involved in an officer
involved shooting.
Upon the arrival of additional Santa Ana Police units, officers found GONZALEZ lying in
the alley, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, and a grey replica pistol lying
approximately three feet from her person. Santa Ana Police Sergeant PHIL CRAFT responded
and obtained a joint public safety from both AYALA and ESQUIVAL. Sergeant CRAFT reported
that both officers fired a total of approximately 10-12 rounds at GONZALEZ.
Orange County Fire Authority firefighter/paramedics treated GONZALEZ and
transported her to University of California, Irvine-Medical Center. At approximately 0855
hours, GONZALEZ was pronounced deceased.
The following assignments were made:
• LOREN DAWSON/ RASHAD WILSON (SAPD)- Case Investigator
• DEAN FULCHER/ LEO RODRIGUEZ (SAPD)- Scene
• BRAD TANNER/ DOMINGO CABRERRA (SAPD)- Interviews
• ED WOOD/ CEASAR FLORES (SAPD)- Canvass Interviews
• KORY DeGRAFFENREID/ JEFF LAUNI (SAPD)- Hospital Scene
• MIKE KENDRICK/ MIKE JUDSON (SAPD)- Canvass Interviews
• BOB ERICKSON/ FRANK GOMEZ (SAPD)- Canvass Interviews
