CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT NO. 2005-33 <br />(Continued by Planning Commission: January 23, 2006 to February 13, 2006) <br />Filed by Fairhaven Memorial Park to consider the expansion to the approximately <br />eight-acre property located north of Fairhaven Avenue and east of Cambridge <br />Street. Adopt a resolution <br />conditioned. <br />the Mitigated Negative Declaration and Mitigation <br />Environmental Review No. 2005-28. <br />approving Conditional Use Permit No. 2005-33 as <br />Mr. Kaufman reminded the Commission that the public hearing was closed on January <br />23; therefore tonight the Commission would only receive comments regarding the <br />architecture and the pedestrian crossing. <br />Karen Haluza presented the staff report and recommendation. <br />Mike McCoy, Santa Ana Police Department discussed the cross walk and traffic control. <br />He discussed the proposed condition that Fairhaven Memorial would provide proof of <br />training of their security personnel to the police department for approval. <br />Commission discussion ensued regarding the pedestrian crossing options: signalized <br />cross walk, or no cross walk and officer only to direct traffic. <br />Applicant Marla Noel indicated that during procession(s), traffic would be halted with <br />licensed escorts at the walkway to assist pedestrians. She indicated the second option <br />would be acceptable to Fairhaven Memorial which would require coordinating <br />compliance with the police department. <br />Architect Barry Boudreaux presented architectural elevations, floor plans and building <br />materials for the community mausoleum. <br />Commissioner Cribb commented that the mosaic niches should include scenes of <br />nature rather then Orange County history. He recommended water elements at the <br />entry and also consideration for olive trees.
