The first paragraph of Section 3403 of the building code is amended by adding <br />thereto the following: <br />EXCEPTION: If additions, alterations or repairs made to any building constructed <br />prior to January 1 , 1946, other than an R-occupancy building, exceed fifty <br />thousand dollars ($50,000.00) in cost in any one-year period, then either (A) the <br />entire building must be completely sprinklered in accordance with fire department <br />standards, or (B) the building must comply with all the following requirements: <br />1. The ceiling of a roof system shall be of one-hour construction, and <br />all ceiling or wall penetrations shall have approved fire dampers. <br />2. All stairways shall be completely enclosed with one-hour <br />construction to exits; and enclosed stairways or required exits shall lead <br />directly to the outside of the building. <br />3. Draft stops are required in floors in accordance with Section ?A?3 <br />717.3. In attic areas, one-hour walls shall be required for every one <br />thousand (1 ,000) square feet of area. <br />4. Smoke detectors with an alarm system, receiving their primary <br />power from the building wiring, shall be required throughout the building in <br />accordance with NFPA standards. <br />5. Either (a) corridors, regardless of occupant load, shall be one-hour <br />construction; or (b) a "life safety" sprinkler system, as approved by the fire <br />department, shall be installed in all corridors. <br />SECTION 24: That section 8-151 of the Santa Ana Municipal Code is hereby amended <br />such that it reads as follows (new language underlined, deleted language in strikeout for tracking <br />purposes only): <br />Sec. 8-151. °e?err'°cv Fire protection requirements (Volume 2.
