• RESOLUTION NO. PC 2000-77 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA APPROVING THE NAMING OF THE <br />POLICE COMMUNITY ROOM TO DAN HALE COMIMUNITY <br />ROOM <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SANTA <br />ANA AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1: Pursuant to the ongoing traditions between the City of Santa Ana and the Santa Ana <br />Police Department, the community room in the Police Department is hereby renamed in honor of <br />Officer Dan Hale, who was killed in the line of duty. <br />Section 2: The Planning Commission of the City of Santa Ana does find determine and declares <br />follows: <br />a. In the past, the Planning Commission of the City of Santa Ana and the Police <br />Department have recognized officers killed in the line of duty by naming something of <br />significance in their memory. <br />b. Two examples of this tribute occurred when Sasser Park was dedicated in honor <br />of Officer Nelson Sasser and Boyd Street was named after Range Master Joseph Boyd. Both <br />officers were killed in the line of duty, and in honor of their memory the City dedicated <br />something of significance, in their recognition. <br />c. The Planning commission wishes to bestow this honor upon Officer Dan Hale <br />who was killed in the line of duty on November 12, 1977. <br />Section 3: The Planning commission's decision to rename the community room in honor of <br />Officer Hale is also based on the following facts: <br />a. Officer Hale was a strong believer in community policing. <br />b. His prior work experience included serving with the Berkley Police Department <br />and the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) Police Department. <br />c. Officer Hale left BART to work in acommunity-policing environment despite the <br />fact, had risen the rank of sergeant with BART and would start anew with the Santa Ana Police <br />Department. <br />d. Officer Hale made certain personal sacrifices when he left the BART Police <br />Department to join the Santa Ana Police Department on October 7, 1975. <br />• <br />
