• <br />RESOLUTION NO. 98-48 <br />GAS: B/14/98 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION <br />OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA APPROVING <br />VARIANCE NO. 98-07, TO ALLOW RELIEF <br />FROM CERTAIN PROVISIONS OF THE SIGN <br />CODE RELATED TO THREE FREESTANDING <br />SIGNS FOR THE SUPERIOR SUPER WAREHOUSE <br />LOCATED AT 1700-1720 SOUTH MAIN STREET <br />WHEREAS, Santa Ana Municipal Code Section 41-638 provides for <br />the granting of a variance from the provisions of the Santa Ana <br />Municipal Code; and <br />WHEREAS, this Commission held a public hearing on August 24, <br />1998, on Variance Application No. 98-07, to allow: <br />1. Section 41-862 (b)(2) requires any freestanding sign to <br />be located in a landscaped planter not less than four <br />feet in any direction: this sign is located in the <br />concrete sidewalk in the front of the store. <br />• <br />2. Section 41-862 (c) (2) states that no freestanding sign <br />shall be higher than seven feet as measured from the <br />curb, the overall height plus the overall width shall <br />not exceed 16 linear feet and the sign face shall not <br />exceed 45 square feet: the proposed sign structure is <br />38 feet high, has a linear dimension of 96 feet and the <br />combined sign face area is approximately 427 square <br />feet. <br />3. Section 41-862 (d) (2) states the copy area shall not <br />exceed 40 percent of the signable area: there is no <br />solid copy area as this sign is suspended on a steel <br />frame . <br />4. Section 41-862 (d) (3) states that the sign shall be <br />for the name of the center or business and contain no <br />more than eight items of information: the proposed <br />sign has 9 items of information. Three words for the <br />name of the business, three words describing products <br />(meats, produce and bakery) and three pictorial <br />symbols, or icons, representing these three products. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PLANNING COMMISION OF <br />THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS FOLLOWS: <br />1.
