u=. „=„9, <br />RESOLUTION NO. 97-11 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION <br />OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA APPROVING <br />VARIANCE NO. 97-11 TO ALLOW VARIATIONS <br />FROM THE SIGN CODE FOR THE PLANET <br />HOLLYWOOD RESTAURANT LOCATED AT 1641 <br />WEST SUNFLOWER AVENUE <br />WHEREAS, this Commission held a public hearing on August 25, <br />1997, on Variance Application No. 97-i1, to allow variances from <br />zoning code standards for signs at 1641 West Sunflower Avenue; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF <br />THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS FOLLOWS: <br />1. Variance No. 97-11 is hereby granted for the signs at 1641 <br />West Sunflower Avenue with respect to the following items. <br />a. Relief from Santa Ana Municipal Code Section 41- <br />860(a)(3) to allow a sign that incorporates <br />mechanical movement; and <br />b. Relief from Santa Ana Municipal Code Section 41- <br />862(c)(2) to allow a freestanding sign that exceeds <br />• the 15 foot height limit; and <br />c. Relief from Santa Ana Municipal Code Section 41- <br />863(d)(1) to allow a wall sign. <br />2. With respect to the variance items approved in section 1 <br />of this Resolution, and based upon the evidence submitted at the <br />abovesaid hearing, this Commission finds and determines as follows: <br />A. That because of special circumstances applicable to the <br />subject property, including size, shape, topography, location or <br />surroundings, the strict application of the zoning ordinance is <br />found to deprive the subject property of privileges not otherwise <br />at variance with the intent and purpose of the provisions of this <br />chapter. <br />The Planet Hollywood Restaurant is located in a retail and <br />entertainment corridor that allows a unique opportunity to provide <br />a major landmark in the City. This project is a regional <br />attraction that contrasts with the surrounding developments and <br />strengthens the landmark status of the project. Additionally, the <br />project is located at the City's southern entrance and serves as a <br />major visual gateway into the City. <br />B. That the granting of a variance is necessary for the <br />. preservation and enjoyment of one or more substantial property <br />1 <br />
