RENAMING OF ALONA PARK TO RIVERVIEW NEIGHBORHOOD PARK <br />Filed by the City of Santa Ana to rename Alona Park to Riverview Neighborhood Park located at <br />1817 West 21st Street. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Adopt a resolution approving the renaming of Alona Park to Riverview Neighborhood Pazk. <br />Mr. Ron Ono, Recreation and Community Services, provided an overview of the staff report and <br />recommendation. <br />Madam Chair Verino expressed her concerns with renaming the park Riverview Neighborhood Pazk. <br />She indicated that she believed the name could be confused with the other Riverview neighborhoods <br />in the City and asked Mr. Ono if the neighborhood requesting the renaming of the park was aware <br />of the other Riverview neighborhood in Santa Ana. <br />Mr. Ono stated that he was not aware of any problems that the renaming would cause. <br />Motion to adopt a resolution approving the renaming of Alona Park to Riverview Neighborhood <br />Park. <br />MOTION: MacDowell SECOND: Solorio <br />AYES: MacDowell, Mondo, Nalle, and Solorio <br />NOES: Verino <br />' <br />ABSENT: Doughty <br />ABSTAIN: Cribb <br />I. FISCAL YEAR CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM 1998-99. <br />Filed by the City of Santa Ana to review the Capital Improvement Program for FY 1998-99. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Recommend that the City Council adopt a resolution approving the Fiscal Year Capital Improvement <br />Program 1998-99. <br />Mr. Manuel Gomez, Public Works Agency, provided an overview of the proposed Capital <br />Improvement Program for the 1998-99 and conducted a question and answer session with the <br />Commission. <br />Commissioner Mondo raised his concerns regarding the signal at Wilshire Boulevard and Flower <br />Street. He stated that he believed improvements to other intersections in the City were more <br />imperative than that particular intersection. In addition, Commissioner Mondo stressed the need for <br />traffic circulation improvements throughout the City, and that many such improvements could be <br />made, including emergency synchronization, with the funds to be spent on this signal. He also stated <br />his belief that such a use of funds would also help prevent frivolous lawsuits against the City and its <br />police/fire personnel. <br />Commissioner Solorio indicated that he believed the Delhi Community Center was not allocated <br />adequate funds for the proposed improvements. <br />Madam Chair Verino, indicated that there was a new school proposed at Chestnut and Grand and she <br />believed funds should be allocated to mitigate traffic circulation. <br />Mohan to recommend that the City Council adopt a resolution approving Capital Improvement <br />Program 1988-99. <br />PIANNING COMMISSION MINUTES 4 MARCH 2i, 1998 <br />
