CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT NO. 2001-20 AND VARIANCE 2001-05 (Jeffry Rice) <br />Filed by Marriott Corporation for a conditional use permit and a parking reduction <br />in the General Commercial (C2) zoning district for Springhill Suites Hotel located <br />at 10 Hutton Centre Drive. <br />PUBLISHED IN THE REGISTER: June 29, 2001 <br />PUBLICLY NOTICED: June 27, 2001 <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Approve and adopt the Negative Declaration for Environmental <br />Review No. 00-177. <br />Adopt a resolution approving Conditional Use Permit No. 2001-20 as <br />conditioned. <br />Adopt a resolution approving Variance No. 2001-05 as conditioned. <br />Jeffry Rice, Principal Planner, provided the staff report and addressed concerns <br />expressed by the Commission regarding the Hutton Centre parking issue. <br />' Chairman Mondo advised that written communication from the Doubletree Hotel <br />had been received. <br />Chairman Mondo opened the public hearing at 8:00 p. m. <br />Commissioner Nalle advised that he had a conversation with Pam Sapetto a few <br />weeks ago and she had described what the project was. <br />Chris Ivy and Pam Sapetto represented the applicant and were available to <br />answer questions. Commissioner Leo asked how long they had been in the <br />development process and they advised him approximately 19-20 months. <br />Mark Pfieffer representing the Doubletree Hotel advised the Commission that <br />parking at Hutton Centre was currently at a premium. He stated that the <br />Doubletree has an agreement for 50 overflow parking spaces but were told to <br />move to #4 Hutton Centre. He believes the parking study done for this project is <br />not valid as it makes assumptions regarding peak parking hours that he believes <br />are not valid. <br />Commissioner Cribb asked if the parking agreement between the Doubletree and <br />Transwestern was recorded and Mr. Pfieffer responded that it was. <br />Douglas Anderson of Transwestern, the property owner, addressed the <br />Commission regarding the parking issues. <br />Chairman Mondo stated that it is not appropriate for the Commission to consider <br />the parking issues between the Doubletree and Transwestern; however, he is <br />concerned that 4 Hutton Centre will now be under-parked. <br />A discussion regarding the parking issues was held between the Commissioners, <br />staff, and all concerned parties. <br />Chairman Mondo closed the public hearing at 8:22 p.m. <br />PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES 8 JULY 9, 2001 <br />
