COMMENTS <br />3. Staff Comments <br />Ms. De Rosa <br />• Noted staff received positive responses from a pres ntation to the Wilshire Square <br />neighborhood and noted categorizations for the neighborhood is expected to take <br />place in January. <br />• Announced that the January Commission meeting will be moved to January 8 due to <br />' the New Years holiday. <br />Ms. Nelson <br />• Reported that the Council remanded Randy Simons' appeal back to the Commission <br />as a public hearing to reconsider the placement of hies property and will come to the <br />Commission in December. <br />• Introduced the new Planning Manager, Jay Trevino. <br />• Announced her appointment as the new Deputy City Manager in the City of Irvine, <br />which will include the development of the Great Pork and added the pleasure of <br />working with the City and Historic Resources Commission. <br />4. Historic Resources Commission Comments <br />Commissioner Chinn <br />Inquired on the Washington Square oral histories. Ms. De Rosa noted the <br />individuals were selected after meeting with the association and the president, and <br />that the histories will be available on videotape at the Library once staff receives <br />approval from the participants. <br />• Requested an update on One Broadway Plaza. Mc Trevino noted staff is currently <br />finalizing the response to comments and is tentatiWely scheduled to come to the <br />Planning Commission in either December or January, <br />• Asked for the status of the RBF contract. Ms. DeRpsa noted it is near completion <br />' and is anticipated to come back to the Commission ins two months as a study session <br />with the consultant. <br />• Announced a couple of workshops in the Santa Ama Library History Room which <br />should have dates and times on the Library website. In November there will be a <br />Hispanic Heritage Seminar for those who would like to research their genealogy and <br />in December a workshop will be held to assist people with their history on their <br />homes. <br />• Noted approximately two years ago he presented a presentation on signage in <br />Pasadena showing historical locations and asked if anything is moving forward for <br />Santa Ana's downtown. Ms. Nelson noted the first phase of pedestrian directional <br />signage has been in place for people to get aroumd the Artists Village and with <br />additional signage planned but there are no future plans for historical signage. <br />Commissioner Bustamante <br />• Apologized for his absence at meetings adding he i~ enrolled in a masters program <br />that is scheduled on Thursdays. <br />• Requested an update on the marker program. Ms. DeRosa noted the area staff is <br />currently working on is the downtown area in batches of 50. Ms. Soboleske noted <br />staff has currently received three signed and notarized easement agreements adding <br />the time consuming process in researching property owners and tracking grant <br />deeds and title reports. <br />• Asked for an update of the fountain in the Artists Village. Ms. Nelson noted that it <br />would cost approximately $100,000 to install the donated fountain and are looking for <br />' funding. Commissioner O'Callaghan asked to see the plans and volunteered to <br />explore donations for services. <br />Commissioner Lutz <br />Asked for an update on the 1811 Heliotrope property. Ms. Nelson provided <br />background information on the item noting the appeal went to Council at the <br />November 3 meeting and was continued to the November 17 meeting. <br />• Asked if the overhead directional signs on Santa Ana Boulevard by the train station <br />are slated to stay galvanized. Ms. Nelson noted them was discussion if it were to be <br />painted it would be black.
