<br />RESOLUTION NO. 2007-30 <br />KO-12/12/07 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE HISTORIC RESOURCES <br />COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA APPROVING <br />THE CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS FOR THE <br />PROPERTY LOCATED AT 2221 NORTH HELIOTROPE <br />DRIVE (HISTORIC EXTERIOR MODIFICATION <br />APPLICATION NO. 2007-03) <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HISTORIC RESOURCES COMMISSION OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The Historic Resources Commission of the City of Santa Ana <br />hereby finds, determines and declares as follows: <br />A. The applicant is requesting approval of Historic Exterior Modification <br />Application No 2007-03 to allow a built up stucco cornice line around the <br />top of the structure, as well as an approximate 4" wide edge detail along <br />the balconies for the property located at 2221 North Heliotrope Drive <br />historically known as the Maharajah House. <br />• B. The property was built in 1938, and was placed on the Santa Ana Register <br />of Historical Properties as Landmark in 2003. The property is listed on the <br />California Register of Historical Resources, and is eligible for the National <br />Register of Historic Places. <br />C. The Maharajah House is an Art Moderne styled home and its association <br />with the Maharajah of Indore, hereditary ruler of a central Indian state and <br />reputedly one of the richest men in the world at that time. See the Historic <br />Template prepared for the Maharajah House attached hereto as Exhibit A <br />and incorporated as though fully set forth herein. <br />D. Pursuant to Santa Ana Municipal Code section 30-6, the Historic <br />Resources Commission held a duly noticed public hearing on October 4, <br />2007 for the request for exterior modifications of the historic Maharajah <br />House located at 2221 North Heliotrope Drive (Historic Exterior <br />Modification Application No. 2007-03). <br />E. Since the property is listed on the Santa Ana Register of Historical <br />Properties, all exterior modifications or alterations are required to meet the <br />Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation. <br />1. The following Secretary of the Interior's Standards are applicable: <br />2, 6, and 9. <br />• i. Standard 2: The historic character of a property will be <br />retained and preserved.
