Section 4 <br />Hazard Assessment and Site Specific <br />Safety Requirements <br />The main hazards associated with the work performed during drainage facility <br />inspection and cleaning include being involved in a vehicle accident while driving to <br />or from a drainage facility site or being struck by a vehicle while working at each <br />drainage facility site. Other hazards include experiencing heat stress and slips, trips, <br />and falls. <br />Traffic hazards will be encountered when working at the site of or in a roadway. <br />These hazards will be increased during times of reduced visibility. The primary <br />threats associated with working in or alongside roadways are workers being struck by <br />passing vehicles, involvement in vehicular collisions or being struck by flying debris <br />from passing vehicles. The following guidelines should be followed to avoid <br />traffic/ vehicular hazards: <br />¦ Use extreme caution <br />¦ Drive safely <br />¦ Implement appropriate traffic control - beacon, cones, signage, etc. <br />¦ Observe traffic - buddy system <br />Additionally, the following protective equipment will be used during fieldwork by all <br />field staff: <br />¦ Hard hat <br />¦ Reflective safety vest <br />¦ Closed toe shoes <br />4-1 <br />19E-27
