ROH - 05/07/12 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2012-XXX <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA DENYING APPEAL NO. 2012-01 AND <br />AFFIRMING THE HISTORIC RESOURCES <br />COMMISSION'S DENIAL OF HISTORIC RESOURCES <br />COMMISSION APPLICATION NO. 2012-01 AND HISTORIC <br />REGISTER CATEGORIZATION NO. 2012-01 FOR THE <br />SEXLINGER PROPERTY LOCATED AT 1584 EAST <br />SANTA CLARA AVENUE (APPEAL NO. 2012-01) <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines <br />and declares as follows: <br />A. On April 5, 2012, the Historic Resources Commission held a duly noticed <br />public hearing to discuss placing the Sexlinger Property, located at 1584 <br />East Santa Clara Avenue, Santa Ana, on the Santa Ana Register of <br />Historical Properties and to categorize the property as Key. The legal <br />owners of the subject property, the Concordia University Foundation and <br />the Lutheran High School of Orange County, expressed opposition to <br />placing the property on the local Historic Register. After the public <br />hearing, the Historic Resources Commission, by a vote of 5:2 (Christy and <br />Yrarrazaval opposed; O'Callaghan absent), denied Historic Resources <br />Commission Application No. 2012-01 and Historic Register Categorization <br />No. 2012-01. <br />B. The Historic Resources Commission's decision to decline to list the <br />Sexlinger Property on the City's historic register was appealed to the City <br />Council by a group calling itself the "Save Our Orchard Coalition" (Appeal <br />No. 2012-01). <br />C. On May 7, 2012, the City Council held a duly noticed public hearing on <br />Appeal No. 2012-01 regarding the Historic Resources Commission's <br />decision to deny placing the Sexlinger Property, located at 1584 East <br />Santa Clara Avenue, Santa Ana, on the Santa Ana Register of Historical <br />Properties and to categorize the property as Key. <br />D. The Sexlinger Property is rectangular in shape, approximately five acres in <br />size, and includes a 1,350 square foot Craftsman-style farmhouse and a <br />Valencia orange grove of approximately 250 trees.
