Child molesters and statutory rapists <br />Out of the 4,295 child molesters, 1,693 <br />were rearrested for any new crime after <br />being released from prison in 1994 <br />(table 20). The 1,693 recidivists <br />consisted of 84.8% whose new arrest <br />was in the same State that released <br />them in 1994, and 15.2% whose <br />alleged violation occurred in a different <br />State. <br />About half of all statutory rapists were <br />not rearrested for any type of crime <br />after their release. Of the 221 who <br />were, 16.6% were rearrested outside <br />the State where they were released. <br />Table 20.
