ROH - 06/04/12 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2012-020 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA APPROVING APPEAL NO. 2012-01 AND <br />REVERSING THE HISTORIC RESOURCES <br />COMMISSION'S DENIAL OF HISTORIC RESOURCES <br />COMMISSION APPLICATION NO. 2012-01 AND HISTORIC <br />REGISTER CATEGORIZATION NO. 2012-01 FOR THE <br />SEXLINGER FARMHOUSE AND ORCHARD LOCATED AT <br />1584 EAST SANTA CLARA AVENUE (APPEAL NO. 2012- <br />01) <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines <br />and declares as follows: <br />A. On April 5, 2012, the Historic Resources Commission held a duly noticed <br />public hearing to discuss placing the Sexlinger Farmhouse and Orchard, <br />located at 1584 East Santa Clara Avenue, Santa Ana, on the Santa Ana <br />Register of Historical Properties and to categorize the property as Key. <br />The legal owners of the subject property, the Concordia University <br />Foundation and the Lutheran High School of Orange County, expressed <br />opposition to placing the property on the local Historic Register. After the <br />public hearing, the Historic Resources Commission, by a vote of 5:2 <br />(Christy and Yrarrazaval opposed; O'Callaghan absent), denied Historic <br />Resources Commission Application No. 2012-01 and Historic Register <br />Categorization No. 2012-01. <br />B. The Historic Resources Commission's decision to decline to list the <br />Sexlinger Farmhouse and Orchard on the City's historic register was <br />appealed to the City Council by a group calling itself the "Save Our <br />Orchard Coalition" (Appeal No. 2012-01). <br />C. On May 7, 2012, Appeal No. 2012-01 regarding the Historic Resources <br />Commission's decision to deny placing the Sexlinger Farmhouse and <br />Orchard, located at 1584 East Santa Clara Avenue, Santa Ana, on the <br />Santa Ana Register of Historical Properties and to categorize the property <br />as Key, came before the City Council of the City of Santa Ana. On May 7, <br />2012, the City Council continued the matter to June 4, 2012.
