manager and participant will create a plan to follow -up on areas of improvement. <br />Concurrently, participant will meet with job developer to discuss participant's preparation for <br />job placement/work experience. Job developer will then complete full orientation with <br />participant to prepare for work experience at a particular worksite that meets participant's <br />needs and goals. <br />D. The program allows participants to actively create their own pathway with the guidance of <br />case managers and job developer(s). Participants are informed from the beginning that if <br />they want to be taken seriously and would like to strive towards excellence, it is critical for <br />him /her to be responsible and hold themselves accountable for their own actions and <br />participation within the program. The program will provide tools and resources for <br />participants to build and create their pathway toward self - sufficiency; case managers and job <br />developer(s) will support, guide, and instruct participants on how to use these tools and <br />resources to help themselves and others. <br />E. OCAPICA will provide "Active" services to participants for up to a 12 -month time period, <br />and will also provide "Follow -up" services for another 12 months. The participant will be <br />engaged regularly through skill building workshops, work experience opportunities, and one- <br />on -one case management. The program is intensive at the start, where individuals are <br />expected to attend skill- building workshops through the first six weeks of the program, <br />followed by work experience placements. At least monthly, participants will meet with their <br />case manager and job development/placement specialist to assist them in reaching their <br />education and employment goals (laid out in their individual service plans), including <br />activities like applying for permanent employment and for post - secondary /college <br />placements. <br />VII. TRAINING <br />A. Over the past three years, OCAPICA has worked to incorporate strategies and recommended <br />activities of the Orange County Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) <br />Committee. With CEDS in mind, OCAPICA focuses on college preparation, career and <br />technical education, industry cluster education and training plans. In addition, OCAPICA <br />offers, through the National Retail Federation, a National Professional Certificate in <br />Customer Service — an industry recognized certificate that extends beyond the retail sector to <br />demonstrate an understanding of professional behavior and effective communication. <br />B. OCAPICA will provide career exploration, training, and work experience opportunities in <br />high demand industries, including Health Care, Green Technologies, and STEM (Science, <br />Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Careers. For Health Care, OCAPICA has <br />developed a Health Careers Pipeline Program (funded by The California Endowment) to <br />increase the number of allied health and social work professions (such as home health aides, <br />medical assistants, licensed vocational nurses, therapists, and others) from underrepresented <br />communities. For Green Technologies and STEM Careers, OCAPICA has been funded by <br />Southern California Edison to create a Pipeline program for career exploration and <br />internship /job placement.
