OC Children's Therapeutic Arts Center 2013-14 Program Narrative
<br />I. Executive Summary:
<br />A. Briefly describeyour agency, the proposed program, proposed contract amount,
<br />youth enrollment goal, and youth population group.
<br />1. Agency description - The Orange County Children's Therapeutic Arts Center (OCCTAC) is recognized as
<br />one of Santa Ana's leading community builders for children, youth and families. We prioritize on serving youth
<br />at -risk, and youth with disabilities, including: learning disabilities, health impairments, developmental
<br />disabilities, and others. Our programs integrate youth with and without disabilities in a nurturing, community -
<br />based environment that teaches respect, disability awareness, and full inclusion. Most of the youth and families
<br />that we serve come from the City of Santa Ana, and have very limited financial and educational resources.
<br />OCCTAC offers a wide variety of educational and therapeutic programs to the community. At least 10% of
<br />youth enrolled will be foster youth, youth on probation, and youth with disabilities. Please See Tables 4
<br />and 5 for more detailed information on OCCTAC programs.
<br />2. Proposed program - The WIA program is an extension of our current educational services provided to older
<br />youth (with and without disabilities); it empowers and educates youth, and provides life changing opportunities.
<br />OCCTAC has been working with WIA participants since 2005. The WIA program at OCCTAC will provide all
<br />10 WIA elements, including educational services, job training, paid work experience, adult mentoring, literacy
<br />and math tutoring, career & educational counseling, alternative secondary school services, support services,
<br />certificate programs, leadership opportunities, and follow-up services. The basic program will take place
<br />primarily at our community -based center in Santa Ana. Participants will engage in a variety of educational and
<br />job training activities, including classroom and workshop instruction. Participants will be required to meet
<br />individually with key staff, participate in daily and weekly educational trainings, and monthly workshops.
<br />Participants will also engage in weekly "hands-on" work experience and job training opportunities at our agency
<br />and other community sites. Please see Tables 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
<br />3. Proposed contract amount - OCCTAC is requesting $180,000 to continue to provide high quality services
<br />to the WIA youth. The funding will be used for a full time case manager, a part time case manager assistant, a
<br />part time career counselor, part time literacy and math tutors, and funds to pay 25 WIA participants during their
<br />work experience, as well as support services, and other program related costs.
<br />4. Youth enrollment goal — The WIA program at OCCTAC will serve a total of 25 WIA participants. The
<br />program will serve 20 out -of -school youth (ages 17-21) and 5 in -school youth (aEes 16-21), for a total of 30
<br />youth.
<br />5. Youth population group — our WIA program will focus primarily on serving youth with disabilities,
<br />foster/emancipated youth and high school drop -out students.

<br />Agency Description: OCCTAC is recognized as one of Santa Ana's leading community builders for children,
<br />youth and families. As mentioned previously, we successfully integrate youth with and without disabilities in
<br />our programs. OCCTAC offers a wide variety of educational and therapeutic programs to the community,
<br />including: Early Start programs, After -school Arts and Tutoring, Learning Academy Program, Technology
<br />Training, State Certificate programs, Parenting, Counseling, Support groups, Leadership development, and
<br />others. WIA participants that enroll with OCCTAC have a wonderful opportunity to choose from a variety of
<br />fields, such as: health, education, arts, technology, and more!
