REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />DECEMBER 2, 2013 <br />TITLE: <br />APPROPRIATION <br />ADJUSTMENT ACCEPTING <br />CALIFORNIA ENDOWMENT <br />GRANT FUNDING <br />C <br />CITY MANAG <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />❑ As Recommended <br />❑ As Amended <br />❑ Ordinance on I" Reading <br />❑ Ordinance on 2ntl Reading <br />❑ Implementing Resolution <br />❑ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />Approve an appropriation adjustment recognizing California Endowment Program funding in the <br />amount of $20,000 in revenue account (no. 02414002 57081) and appropriate same to <br />expenditure accounts (nos. 02414410 - various). <br />DISCUSSION <br />The California Endowment, a private statewide health foundation created in 1996, provides <br />grant funding to Building Healthy Communities network programs throughout the state. Building <br />Healthy Communities is a 10 -year, $1 billion program of the California Endowment. Fourteen <br />communities across the state are taking action to improve the health of community members. <br />They are doing this by improving employment opportunities, education, housing, neighborhood <br />safety, unhealthy environmental conditions, access to healthy foods and more. The goal is to <br />create places where children are healthy, safe and ready to learn. <br />The Santa Ana Police Department has been awarded a grant of $20,000 from the California <br />Endowment Foundation for this program. This funding will continue to provide the Police <br />Department resources to focus on community outreach efforts within the Building Healthy <br />Communities target area. The focused outreach will capitalize on three proven and effective <br />programs, the Parent Academy, the Jr. COP Program, and the Teen Academy, The <br />Department will partner with schools and neighborhood associations to determine the locations <br />that will best benefit from the programs.
