ARTICLE IX <br />9.0 VACATION <br />9.1 Purpose. It is the policy of the City to grant employees vacation leave in order to provide <br />them with a break in their regular work schedule and this purpose will be used as a guide <br />in the administration of the provisions of this Article. <br />9.2 Administration. <br />A. Part Time Civil Service employee's shall earn six (6) hours per month of <br />vacation, for a total maximum accrual of 72 hours per year. <br />B. A Part Time Civil Service employee who has completed less than one year's <br />service during the calendar year shall receive a proportionate fraction in <br />accordance with the amount of service to his or her credit during the year; <br />provided, however, no Part Time Civil Service employee shall be entitled to or <br />receive payment for any vacation until he or she has completed six (6) months of <br />continuous service. <br />C. On or after the first (1") day of the month following completion of six (6) months <br />of continuous Part Time Civil Service, an employee may be allowed to take all, or <br />a proportionate fraction of, his or her earned vacation, subject to scheduling <br />approval of the employee's supervisor. <br />D. Limit: The maximum total accumulation of vacation leave with pay shall be two <br />hundred (200) hours. Vacation time off may be taken in increments as small as <br />one -half (' /2) hour with fractional usage rounded upward to the next higher <br />multiple of one -half (' /z). <br />E. Computation of Regular Vacation. <br />Should an employee be confined to a hospital for sickness or injury while <br />on authorized vacation, each full day of such confinement, when <br />confirmed by a physician's statement and approval of the Department <br />Head, may be deducted from the computation of vacation expended and <br />charged against the employee's accumulated sick leave. <br />2. No employee shall have the right to accumulate or split his or her <br />vacation, but the same may be allowed or required by the Department <br />Head. The time at which an employee shall take his or her vacation shall <br />be determined by the Department Head, with due regard for the wishes of <br />the employee and particular regard for operational needs. <br />9.3 Excess Usage. If vacation time off is used in excess of that available, such excess <br />vacation time off will, first, be deducted from any available compensatory time off <br />accrual; finally, deducted from the next scheduled salary payment. <br />22 <br />
