The college has outgrown their time <br />at Centennial Park. <br />• APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />o Minutes of October 28, 2013 accepted as presented. <br />Mayor Pro Tern Tinajero requested the Small Park Improvement item be pulled out of <br />order since he may have to leave early. <br />• SMALL PARK IMPROVEMENT PROJECT PROCESS UPDATE <br />o Gerardo Mouet presented a proposal for small projects under $300,000 to be <br />done a different way. He provided an example in which employee <br />contributions and volunteers were able to construct an exercise zone at Birch <br />Park for under $38,000. Employee contributions also provide funding for the <br />Catalina excursion and campout. The Garfield Exercise Zone that is currently <br />under construction was implemented through the normal process and is <br />costing $331,603. The next small project that can be implemented by <br />PRCSA is the Memorial Park Exercise Zone. The scope will require the <br />removal of the deteriorated picnic shelter and barbeque grills. The exercise <br />zone will be built in the same location under a canvas shade shelter. Claire <br />Rmeburn, Executive Director of America On Track is donating $45,000 to <br />purchase the equipment and shade shelter. <br />Gcrardo Mouet introduced Claire Braeburn and she indicated they are excited <br />to do this. They were able to obtain a 3 year grant for the purchase of <br />exercise equipment and shade shelter. <br />PLA_'A. SANTA ANA AND DOWNTOWN PRUGRtUAMiNG UPDATE <br />Gerardo Mouet presented the success of the Plaza Navidena Event during <br />the Christmas holiday. The agency now will be managing a variety of events <br />stai-iing with Plaza Primavera, Dia Del Nino y Del Libro, Cinco de Mayo, <br />Independence Day, Plaza Bienestar, Fiestas Patrias, Plaza de los <br />Fundadores and Plaza Navidena. Staff will be creating a web site on <br />sponsorship and advertising on the marquee. An artist is currently working on <br />a logo for the events. <br />David Cavazos indicated the Plaza Events will be paid from salary savings. <br />The City was able to identify $500,000 in salary savings of which $250,000 <br />will be appropriated for producing the events and soliciting sponsorship. It will <br />take time to build relationship with sponsors. <br />Mayor Pro Tern Tinajero indicated the community will be looking forward to <br />the events and it is a good way to promote the city. <br />PREY Regular Meeting Page 2 January 27, 2014 <br />
