The Corps -to -Career Specialist helps <br />Corpsmembers discern their career and education goals, helps them <br />create their resumes, coordinates externships and on-the-job training, <br />and provides job leads. <br />The OCCC Charter School has five passionate, certificated teachers who <br />provide direct instruction in classrooms with state-of-the-art technology. <br />A fulltime guidance counselor provides one-on-one support, including: <br />helping them explore and plan their career paths, tracking their credits <br />and graduation requirements, coordinating and facilitating workshops <br />on anger management, substance abuse, various careers and vocational <br />education opportunities, and post -secondary education. <br />Staff Supervisors provide direction, structure, and mentorship to <br />Corpsmembers who work on OCCC projects. For youth who had few <br />mentors or boundaries in their childhood, their supervisors are guides <br />and role models. <br />The OCCC management team has over 65 years of experience working <br />directly with the business aspects associated with the OCCC. This does <br />not include additional external management experience and/or training <br />in the nonprofit and business environments, as well as the wealth of <br />experience and guidance available through the OCCC Board of Directors. <br />The Chief Executive Officer brings over 20 years of leadership and <br />executive management in the non-profit and corporate arenas before <br />joining the OCCC. <br />Past experience with WIA programs or other youth programs <br />The OCCC has incorporated a variety of best practices from various state <br />and national models for youth and workforce development to serve this <br />population. The OCCC's basic program design has been in place since <br />1995 and has expanded and enhanced its WIA program services since <br />the inception of WIA funding in 1998. The OCCC's program design <br />provides comprehensive and coordinated activities for at -risk youth to <br />meet and exceed planned expected outcomes in literacy and numeracy <br />gains, attainment of a degree or certificate and placement in <br />employment or post -secondary education. <br />4. What kind of impact your agency has made on the youth community <br />The OCCC enrolls the neediest at -risk youth as designated by the Santa <br />Ana Youth Council, those who need to learn how to work and go to <br />school. The OCCC is a six to twelve month comprehensive program with <br />various components and strategies designed to guide and support youth <br />into being employable, trainable, self-sufficient adults. The program's <br />support services and paid work experience help the youth to stabilize <br />their lives and help them deal with the many issues they face on a daily <br />basis so they can first maintain their employment and education <br />EXHIBIT A <br />
