government. They had the opportunity to engage with Corpsmembers from other <br />conservation corps around the state and observed our state government at work. <br />VII. Workshops (not a required element of the program) <br />A. Describe the workshops that will be provided to youth. <br />The OCCC provides workshops such as practice interviews, career exploration, <br />personal finance, smoking cessation, parenting skills, customer service, job <br />retention, resume preparation, communication skills, and many other topics. <br />B. Will your agency provide any of the following workshops. If so, briefly describe the <br />content of the workshops. <br />1. Financial Literacy/ Budget Management <br />The OCCC Charter School provides an entire course on financial literacy. <br />They discuss how to set up a checking and a savings account, how to <br />create a budget, what an IRA is and how to set one up, the math behind <br />compound interest, how to read the fine print on a credit card, how to <br />establish and/or fix one's credit, car loans, and how to file income taxes. <br />2. Family Planning <br />Planned Parenthood has offered workshops at the OCCC, discussing <br />things like sexual health, birth control, pregnancy, and relationships. <br />Parent -to -Parent has done parenting workshops at the OCCC, complete <br />with childcare for participants' convenience. They discuss how to relate <br />to your child, boundaries and discipline, and nurturing relationships with <br />both children and partners. <br />3. Worker's Rights/Labor Laws <br />The OCCC organizes visits to local labor unions to educate <br />Corpsmembers about how labor unions operate. CalOptima recently <br />presented a workshop on Covered California, providing information and <br />support to both Corpsmembers and students. <br />4. Analytical Skills at the Workplace <br />The OCCC provides many work readiness and career exploration <br />workshops. Our Corps -to -Career Specialist and other staff provide <br />workshops about job retention, resume writing, filling out applications, <br />mock interviews, career exploration, and many others. During their <br />OCCC orientation, Corpsmembers take the O*NET assessment to help <br />them discover how their strengths and interests can connect to a career <br />path. <br />5. Health Resources <br />Besides family planning and parenting workshops, the OCCC provides <br />workshops on health resources. The OCCC has provided workshops on <br />smoking cessation and smoking's effect on the environment, tattoo <br />removal services, substance abuse workshops, self-esteem and body <br />image workshops, and many others.
