Can your agency provide workshops on public speaking skills to the youth. <br />The OCCC has sponsored public speaking workshops in the past and will continue <br />to do so. For the annual OCCC graduation ceremony, students have the <br />opportunity to audition to present a speech. OCCC and OCCC Charter School staff <br />provides private and group coaching, and the selected students present their <br />speeches at the graduation ceremony in front of several hundred people. <br />D. Can your agency provide workshops on customer service skills to youth. <br />The OCCC provides customer service training and certification through the <br />National Retail Federation. <br />VIII. Post -Secondary Education <br />A. Specify how your agency will help youth enter post -secondary education (college, <br />apprenticeship, vocational schools, career technical training, etc.). <br />WIA Corpsmembers will obtain services necessary to ensure that youth will enter <br />post -secondary education. Services include, but not limited to: <br />• Support services; referrals for legal, medical, substance abuse, health, <br />housing, family/personal guidance and counseling; help with books, <br />clothing, other items needed for post -secondary education, advanced <br />training, etc. <br />• OCCC staff members serve as adults mentors <br />• Access to the OCCC's computer lab, fax, voice mail, and printer for college <br />applications, financial aid, on-line services <br />• Transition assistance such as: vocational certification / education <br />opportunities / school enrollment assistance <br />B. How will your agency expose youth to the various post -secondary educational <br />institutions (colleges, universities, vocational training schools, apprenticeships, <br />etc.). <br />The OCCC's organizational purpose is to empower youth and young adults to <br />become self-sufficient members of their community. The OCCC accomplishes this <br />by exposing WIA Corpsmembers to programs that provide opportunities for <br />educational, professional, and personal development and provide the necessary <br />skills to develop and maintain a positive work ethic. The intent of exposure to <br />various post -secondary educational institutions is to provide a lasting foundation <br />to enable youth to enter the workforce and be successful, productive, members of <br />society. <br />IX. Tutoring <br />Note: YSPN providers are required to use the Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE) on <br />ALL youth to assess their literacy and numeracy skills. Youth who score 8.9 and below <br />are considered "basic skills deficient". Youth that are basic skills deficient are required <br />EXHIBIT A <br />18 <br />
