Sarmiento, Tinajero (6) <br />NOES: None (0) <br />ABSTAIN: None (0) <br />ABSENT: Martinez (1) <br />COMMENTS <br />PUBLIC COMMENTS <br />• Irma Jauregui, spoke in support of Community Development Block Grant funding <br />and upcoming Pacific Electric Park that will improve south Main Street corridor. <br />• Theo Hirsch, proposed organized effort to do a community garden and compost for <br />organic waste and assist with recycling efforts; need more efficient recycling. <br />• Wilma Peterson, requested speed bumps on Brooks Street due to excessive speed <br />and also noted that gangs have proliferated into the area. <br />o Councilmember Reyna to meet with resident and follow up on request. <br />• Cecilia Aguinaga, Orange County Vector Control representative, provided brief <br />update and noted that April 20-24 is Mosquito Awareness. <br />o OC Vector Control, Director of Communications, reminded all of West Nile <br />Virus cases last year; urged all to report out of service pools. <br />o Mayor Pulido, asked staff to assist with this effort to avoid any spraying; <br />public safety concern. <br />o Mayor Pro Tern Sarmiento, requested that staff work collaboratively with <br />agency in identifying areas of concern. <br />o Councilmember Amezcua, suggested neighborhood associations send out <br />notices to homeowners. <br />o Councilmember Tinajero, recounted gravity of disease; need to take care of <br />public. <br />• Michael Klubukin, spoke of County of Orange wrongdoings. <br />• George Garcia, need to do more for climate change, recycle; proposed ban on <br />plastic bags; betterment of future generations. <br />• Laun Martin, introduced self as new Principal of Vista Heritage Charter School. <br />o Councilmember Reyna to meet with resident and follow up on request. <br />• Ramon Hernandez, neighborhood president of Pico Lowell that suffered 3 hit and <br />rums in past six months; requested speed humps and better signage; also, issue with <br />produce trucks, requested an update; and noted that he has seen improvements in <br />the neighborhood, but more needed. <br />• Pierre Espino, supports green efforts - plant trees to bring back natural water <br />channels. <br />o Councilmember Reyna to meet with resident and follow up on request. <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 18 APRIL 21, 2015 <br />
