COUNCIL AGENDA ITEMS <br />Pursuant to Santa Ana Charter Section 411, any member of the City Council may place items on <br />the City Council Agenda to be considered by the City Council. <br />85A. CONSIDER APPROVING RESOLUTION SUPPORTING WORKERS AT <br />"EL SUPER" - Councilmember Tinajero, Councilmember Amezcua, and <br />Mayor Pro Tern Sarmiento <br />• Rick Eiden, Executive Vice President of Local 524 and President of the <br />Orange County Labor Federation that unanimously approved proposed <br />resolution; have worked to rise standards for employees in the food <br />industry; surrounding communities also considering approval of <br />resolution. <br />• Adrian Rocha, employee of El Super spoke in support of proposed <br />resolution. <br />Council discussion ensued. <br />Councilmember Tinajero, noted importance for earning living wages, <br />treating employees with dignity and urged all to boycott market. <br />Mayor Pro Tem Sarmiento, imperative to provide quality of care and good <br />working conditions; thanked union representatives for bringing matter to <br />our attention. <br />Councilmember Amezcua, echoed comments and emphasized need to <br />meet basic needs. <br />Councilmember Benavidez, stated that retaliatory action against <br />employees seeking fair treatment is not looked at favorable by self and <br />colleagues; supports resolution. <br />Councilmember Reyna, thanked all for efforts to improve quality of life of <br />members of our community. <br />Mayor Pulido, added that it has been multiyear effort to bring justice and <br />fairness to workers. <br />MOTION: Adopt resolution. <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2015-019 - A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL <br />OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA SUPPORTING THE BOYCOTT OF ALL <br />EL SUPER MARKETS DUE TO INADEQUATE WAGES AND BENEFITS <br />AND POOR HEALTH STANDARDS <br />MOTION: Tinajero <br />VOTE: AYES: <br />SECOND: Sarmiento <br />Amezcua, Benavides, Pulido, Reyna, <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 17 APRIL 21, 2015 <br />
