ROOSEVELT/WALKER JOINT USE PROJECT UPDATE <br />o Mr. Dixon, Assistant Superintendent indicated plans were submitted to <br />DSA for approval. He indicated construction will begin this summer and <br />completion in April next year. 24 to 30 parking spaces will be added to <br />the site. <br />SAUSD /CITY PARTNERSHIP ON WI-Fl SYSTEM <br />• Superintendent Miller indicated he heard from the Mayor that the City is <br />interested in providing Wi -Fi to Santa Ana residents. He is interested in a <br />joint use /shared interest on this proposal and what's to know where the <br />committee wants to go. <br />• Council member Reyna indicated the city is proceeding with installing Wi- <br />Fi in City Hall and the Library. <br />• City Manager Cavazos indicated the City Hall, Library and Downtown are <br />looking at ways for City / SAUSD to partner on the fiber backbone for the <br />common benefit. <br />• Board member Palacio indicated if the technology is being set up to talk <br />to the district. <br />• City Manager Cavazos indicated "Yes" along with Downtown. <br />• Board member Palacio asked how do we provide service to the residents <br />at home. <br />• Board member Iglesias indicated Cox has a grant to partner with school <br />districts with good rates to reach out to families. <br />GENERAL DISCUSSION <br />• Joint Use <br />c Discussed earlier. <br />• Communication <br />• Board member Palacio indicated we have an opportunity for <br />collaboration on projects. We need to expand this communication to <br />other areas. We don't know what each other are doing in the areas of <br />Homeless shelter, Approval of agreement terminations, etc. The City's <br />Neighborhood Association and the District's PTA need to communicate <br />together. There needs to be a point of communication. <br />• Ms. Lyon Strategic Communications Manager indicated we have <br />provided coordinated meetings with the districts PIO on City <br />messages. Council member Reyna talked about using the marquee. <br />We also use the water bills to communicate along with other ways to <br />improve communications. <br />• Board member Palacio indicated when we have any significant <br />changes; the city needs to call so the district understands issues. <br />• Council member Tinajero indicated the School Superintendent and the <br />City Manger are the key staff persons that need to communicate with <br />each other including the PIO. <br />• Board member Palacio indicated between now and next meeting we <br />need to identify issues to discuss. <br />• Council member Tinajero indicated when there is a policy meeting we <br />need to communicate with each other. We meet every quarter, but if <br />necessary and if the subject requires it we should call a special <br />meeting to inform each other. <br />City /School Joint Policy Meeting Page 4 January 26, 2015 <br />13A -8 <br />
