RESOLUTION NO. 2015- <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA AFFIRMING THE CITY COUNCIL'S SUPPORT OF <br />WELLNESS STRATEGIES THROUGHOUT THE CITY OF SANTA <br />ANA <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA <br />ANA AS FOLLOWS: <br />WHEREAS, in March 2014, the City of Santa Ana (hereinafter referred to <br />as "City ") approved a five -year strategic plan laying out a vision, mission, <br />principles, and goals (Strategic Plan) committing to integrate health, wellness, <br />and equity into all policies and plans, including: to create a comprehensive <br />economic development strategic plan, to support neighborhood vitality and <br />livability, to encourage new businesses and investment, and to promote a strong <br />arts and culture infrastructure; and, <br />WHEREAS, Santa Ana has a population of 334,227, of whom 78% are <br />Latino, 11% are Asian, 9% are White and 2% identify as another race or <br />ethnicity; and over 30% of Santa Ana households include children under 18 <br />living at home; and a wide variety of languages are spoken (83% of households <br />include persons who speak a language other than English at home); and Santa <br />Ana is culturally diverse (over 48% of households include persons born in <br />countries other than the US); and so as one of the densest, youngest, and most <br />culturally and ethnically diverse cities in the nation, Santa Ana's goals of <br />engaging all sectors of our community and promoting consensus and wellness <br />among them are all the more important; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council supports building a strong, thriving and <br />culturally relevant economy throughout Santa Ana in support of overall wellness; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Santa Ana Strategic Plan states that economic <br />development is a goal and a priority for the City, and that the City will work <br />aggressively to encourage businesses to locate and invest in our community so <br />as to provide living -wage jobs, reduce unemployment, and bolster our city's tax <br />base; and <br />WHEREAS, the Santa Ana Strategic Plan, considers the completion of a <br />comprehensive economic development strategy to be a key strategy in achieving <br />goals of economic development and promoting wellness; and <br />WHEREAS, economic development is critical to the financial well -being <br />and future growth of our community, and responsible economic development <br />55B -3 <br />
