must bring opportunity to all of Santa Ana's residents, businesses, and workers <br />in the pursuit of overall wellness; and <br />WHEREAS, At the City Council Finance, Economic, Development and <br />Technology Committee meeting on January 12, 2015, a group of residents and <br />business owners, represented by Building Healthy Communities, presented an <br />item to the Committee related to a Market Study for downtown Santa Ana for <br />Wellness Goods and Services and encouraged the City Council to adopt a <br />resolution in support of wellness concepts, including economic development <br />strategies; and <br />WHEREAS, the City has held subsequent meetings with the proponents <br />and has reviewed and commented on a resolution proposed by the proponents; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, on April 7, 2015 the City Council discussed at its regular <br />meeting the proposed wellness resolution and its discussions enabled staff to <br />identify common areas of interest concerning the proposed wellness resolution; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, on May 19, 2015 the City Council further discussed the <br />wellness resolution proposal and approved a motion to direct staff to prepare a <br />resolution and analyze costs and implementation plans related solely to those <br />portions of the proposed resolution concerning support of: 1) Plaza Santa Ana to <br />Plaza Calle Cuatro designation and Calle Cuatro sub - designation for 4t" Street; <br />2) support of a private mercadito; 3) support of private microfarms; and 4) <br />support of the creation of a committee to support economic development ideas. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section 1. Recognizing the historical and cultural significance of Calle Cuatro, <br />the City Council directs staff to take steps necessary to sub - designate the street <br />name signs along 4t" Street between Ross and Grand Ave to add " Calle Cuatro" <br />and to designate Plaza Santa Ana to "Plaza Calle Cuatro." <br />Section 2. Desiring to support the concept of a private mercadito, the City <br />Council directs staff to identify potential locations and to make future <br />recommendations for such properties to be utilized as a standing mercadito, with <br />the primary goal of creating opportunities for Santa Ana artisans, craft makers, <br />and other neighborhood - serving small businesses to market their products and <br />services in such identified location. <br />Resolution No. 2015 - <br />Page 2 of 4 55B-4 <br />
