RESOLUTION NO. 2015 -024 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA AFFIRMING THE CITY COUNCIL'S <br />SUPPORT OF WELLNESS STRATEGIES THROUGHOUT <br />THE CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br />WHEREAS, in March 2014, the City of Santa Ana (hereinafter referred to as <br />"City ") approved a five -year strategic plan laying out a vision, mission, principles, and <br />goals (Strategic Plan) committing to integrate health, wellness, and equity into all <br />policies and plans, including: to create a comprehensive economic development <br />strategic plan, to support neighborhood vitality and livability, to encourage new <br />businesses and investment, and to promote a strong arts and culture infrastructure; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, Santa Ana has a population of 334,227, of whom 78% are Latino, <br />11% are Asian, 9% are White and 2% identify as another race or ethnicity; and over <br />30% of Santa Ana households include children under 18 living at home; and a wide <br />variety of languages are spoken (83% of households include persons who speak a <br />language other than English at home); and Santa Ana is culturally diverse (over 48% of <br />households include persons born in countries other than the US); and so as one of the <br />densest, youngest, and most culturally and ethnically diverse cities in the nation, Santa <br />Ana's goals of engaging all sectors of our community and promoting consensus and <br />wellness among them are all the more important; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council supports building a strong, thriving and culturally <br />relevant economy throughout Santa Ana in support of overall wellness; and <br />WHEREAS, the Santa Ana Strategic Plan states that economic development is <br />a goal and a priority for the City, and that the City will work aggressively to encourage <br />businesses to locate and invest in our community so as to provide living -wage jobs, <br />reduce unemployment, and bolster our city's tax base; and <br />WHEREAS, the Santa Ana Strategic Plan, considers the completion of a <br />comprehensive economic development strategy to be a key strategy in achieving goals <br />of economic development and promoting wellness; and <br />WHEREAS, economic development is critical to the financial well -being and <br />future growth of our community, and responsible economic development must bring <br />opportunity to all of Santa Ana's residents, businesses, and workers in the pursuit of <br />overall wellness; and <br />Resolution No. 2015 -024 <br />Page 1 of 3 <br />
