Parking improvements accomplished <br />during fiscal year 2014 -2015 are highlighted below: <br />• Installed IPS Smart Meters with credit capabilities. <br />• Installed credit card readers in parking structures. <br />• Eliminated meter sharing though smart sensor technology. <br />• Pay -by -phone capability added to Downtown parking meters. <br />• Implemented valet program at 3rd St. & Bush St. parking lot. <br />• Comprehensive parking structures assessment complete as well as a market rate <br />parking study. <br />• Ongoing improvements planned for signage, wayfinding, and lighting. <br />Downtown Enhancements and Parking Modernization Plan <br />The City reviewed options with various stakeholders and built consensus from the Santa Ana <br />Business Council and Downtown Inc. on the modernization improvements and amenities with the <br />use of corresponding rate adjustments. The preliminary Parking Pro Forma (Exhibit # 1) details <br />improvements and amenities that are integral to the successful modernization of the parking <br />program and, at the same time, complement the recent economic growth in the Downtown. The <br />preliminary Parking Pro Forma is categorized into key areas which identify needed improvements <br />and amenities. <br />Downtown Enhancements: Safety <br />The City will hire four additional Police Officers dedicated exclusively to patrolling the Downtown to <br />increase safety. Civilian security staff levels will also be increased to assist in patrolling the parking <br />structures. Further enhancements will include installation of security cameras along the Downtown <br />to improve pedestrian safety. <br />75A -4 <br />
