Technical Schools. Additionally, presenters are scheduled from a variety of high -demand <br />industries including green jobs, medical careers, etc. <br />C. Identify and/or develop a pathway for youth that can lead them from high school to <br />career or college. Please elaborate on specific pathways. <br />Training and education will assist youth in obtaining employment because the youth will learn <br />how to work and go the school. As a result of the OCCC's six to twelve month comprehensive <br />program, support services and paid work experience, youth are able to stabilize their lives and <br />lean how to deal with the many issues they face on a daily basis. The Corps -2 -Career Specialist <br />works one on one with WIA participants to develop personalized goals (post -secondary <br />education, job placement, and career development) that lead to self-sufficiency. Once the <br />youth become stable and are able to maintain employment and education, they will continue <br />to be assisted in furthering their education, improving their work skills, and seeking better <br />employment post -corps, leading to a life of self-sufficiency. <br />The ultimate path for out participants is building a bridge from education to work, with <br />multiple steps along the way to develop the infrastructures necessary for retention. OCCC <br />bridges the participant with employers, while creating a myriad of support services to ensure <br />individual goals are met. <br />D. Describe in detail how the program will prepare youth for postsecondary education and <br />training. <br />The needs of these disconnected youth are immense, whether they are pregnant/parenting, <br />children of incarcerated parents, homeless, high school dropouts, offenders, <br />foster/emancipated, or have a poor work history. They are facing financial hardships, drug <br />addiction, lack of self-esteem; lack of basic skills, no employment, no skills, etc. With such a <br />myriad of needs, a coordinated, articulated program, rich with varied approaches and learning <br />opportunities needs to be provided. We will address the following needs: "soft" and "hard" <br />occupational skills training; completion of high school credits to earn a high school diploma; <br />improve basic skills; pass the California High School Exit Exam; develop leadership skills; <br />develop a sense of community service. They will leave the OCCC program with a high school <br />diploma, work experience, certifications and training, supportive services, and mentorship, <br />which will allow them to enroll in higher education, obtain employment on a career path in a <br />growing industry, and become self-sufficient. <br />E. How will your organization expose youth to the various post -secondary educational <br />institutions? <br />OCCC plans to coordinate and schedule field trips to the local college campuses such as Cal <br />State Fullerton, Cypress Community College, Rancho Santiago Community College and Fullerton <br />Community College.
