Contract Award for Citywide Concrete Improvements <br />September 1, 2015 <br />Page 2 <br />Staff re- advertised the project on July 17 and 18, 2015, and expanded the outreach to improve <br />bid advertisement and participation by contractors in the bid process. The re- advertised project <br />yielded seven bids which were opened on August 3, 2015. Ruiz Concrete & Paving, Inc. submitted the lowest <br />responsive bid in the amount of $607,095, which compares favorably with the engineer's estimate <br />of $630,000. Therefore, staff recommends award of this contract to Ruiz Concrete & Paving, Inc. <br />Not all sidewalk repairs Citywide will be completed under this contract. Staff has started a study <br />to evaluate all of the sidewalks and pedestrian pathways in the City. That study will result in a <br />comprehensive priority list based on many more factors. Staff will follow up with another <br />construction project to repair concrete sidewalks based on the updated list. The study and its <br />corresponding priority list will be available for review at the end of 2015. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT <br />Approval of this item supports the City's efforts to meet Goal #6 Community Facilities & <br />Infrastructure, Objective #1 (establish and maintain a Community Investment Plan for all City <br />assets), Strategy B (equitably maintain existing streets and associated assets in a state of good <br />repair so they are clean, safe, and aesthetically pleasing for all users), Strategy C (invest <br />23A -2 <br />
