Permits (if required) <br />Artist Statement: <br />In my experience as an art instructor, I want to give my art knowledge to others, to <br />encourage them to be creators and to have the opportunity to develop their brains and <br />their imagination, and to achieve new experiences in art and culture for our new <br />generation. <br />I grew up as an artist, and I keep in my memories what all of my teachers said while I <br />was in school: to experiment in new ways, to create, to achieve scholarship and a high <br />level of education in art and cultural history, to be ready to teach others. <br />Narrative for proposed use of funds:: <br />This project is for the creation of an Artisan Center, hosting regular workshops free to <br />the public to increase their involvement in and skills in art. The target age range is <br />from 8 years old on up to adults, and family participation is encouraged. Free <br />workshops will be offered for up to two groups of up to 15 participants per session, two <br />days a week for three hours per session (total of four 3 -hour sessions per week). <br />Workshops will include such topics as: <br />Papier mache head masks, figures and pinatas <br />Face masks <br />Sketching and Drawing <br />- Costume making <br />- Dia de Los Muertos themed art <br />- Souvenirs <br />- Painting using stencils <br />- Sewing for the interior -- aprons, gloves, hats, etc. <br />- Pattern making and design <br />- Clothing decoration and appliques <br />Incorporated into the practical workshops will be relevant topics in art theory and <br />technique. In addition, demonstrations and workshops will be developed from ideas <br />suggested by participants. Every three months, an exhibition will be held showcasing <br />the art created at the workshops. The exhibitions will be free and open to the public. <br />Classes will be taught by the artist with help from assistant instructors; the assistant <br />instructors will be volunteers or recruited from local high schools, in exchange for school <br />credit if possible. The artist will provide industrial sewing machines (to be left onsite) <br />and an electric kiln for firing ceramic work (offsite). Other than rent, the bulk of the <br />funds requested will go for materials and supplies. <br />Supplemental Question 1:: <br />
