A location in downtown Santa Ana will need to be provided by the city or a location with
inexpensive or donated rent identified. The space needs long tables and chairs for
participants (up to 15 at a time), although if they are not provided with the space, the
artist can provide them. If space is available where equipment (sewing machines) can
be left in between workshops, that is preferred; otherwise, the sewing workshops will
not be feasible.
If a permit is required to hold the workshops, then that is another resource that would be
required.
Supplemental Question 2::
This is a new project; the artist has previous experience with running workshops at
Bower's Kidseum, the Santa Ana Public Library, Neutral Ground Cafe, Santora Art
Community, and Assistance League of Santa Ana; and in Oakland, CA at Street Level
Health Project and at Amsterdam Art. He also has experience in several different after
school enrichment programs in Oakland.
Supplemental Question 3::
Every three months, an exhibition will be held showcasing the art created at the
workshops. The exhibitions will be free and open to the public.
Supplemental Question 4::
This project will benefit the Santa Ana arts and culture community by providing
members of the public — la gente — the opportunity to gain skills to develop a better life,
to enrich their lives and to preserve their culture through artistic expression. The city of
Santa Ana benefits in having a populace that is trained and can participate directly in
art, rather than only as spectators and admirers. By spreading these concrete art and
craft skills in a fun environment, we encourage the development of new artists who will
further contribute to the social and economic development of Santa Ana's art
community.
